ROME — Italy’s Poggipolini has completed its acquisition of California-based Saturn Fasteners, strengthening its industrial footprint in the United States and its position in the North American aerospace and defense supply chain.
The deal brings new manufacturing capabilities, aerospace fastener expertise and commercial relationships into the Italian group, while expanding its presence in California, a major U.S. aerospace hub.
Why it matters: The acquisition marks another step in Poggipolini’s transformation from an Italian company with a strong export business into an Aerospace & Defense platform with an industrial footprint spanning Europe, the United States and India.
- Around 75% of the group’s revenue is already generated abroad.
- Aeronautics and space account for roughly 80% of its turnover.
- Saturn adds a second U.S. presence following the acquisition of Houston Precision Fasteners in 2024.
- Manufacturing operations in California bring Poggipolini closer to a significant part of the North American aerospace supply chain.
Zoom in: Saturn Fasteners. Poggipolini, headquartered in San Lazzaro di Savena, near Bologna, designs and manufactures critical fastening systems, Class C components and advanced precision solutions for the aerospace and defense industries.
- Saturn Fasteners is based in Burbank, California, and specializes in manufacturing and supplying specialty and standard fasteners for the aerospace industry, with a particular focus on externally threaded aerospace fasteners.
- The acquisition was announced on July 17, following the signing of a definitive agreement. Poggipolini announced the closing on Sept. 7 after the completion of the required reviews and receipt of the necessary approvals.
The big picture: The deal is part of an expansion strategy that Poggipolini has pursued through acquisitions across several markets.
- Aviomec joined the group in 2022, followed by Houston Precision Fasteners in the United States in 2024. Poggipolini has also acquired a majority stake in India’s Aero Fasteners.
- Saturn now adds a manufacturing and commercial foothold on the U.S. West Coast.
Between the lines: In aerospace, industrial proximity matters alongside scale. Fasteners are critical components subject to stringent quality, reliability and traceability requirements.
- Saturn therefore brings more than manufacturing capacity: it adds specialized expertise, customer relationships and a commercial foothold already rooted in the U.S. market.
- Poggipolini says the acquisition will allow the group to provide a broader service to customers, pursue new growth opportunities and respond more directly to the requirements of leading international aerospace companies.
What they’re saying: For Poggipolini, the closing further establishes the United States as a key pillar of its international expansion strategy.
- “We are very pleased to announce the completion of the acquisition of Saturn Fasteners,” CEO Michele Poggipolini said. “This transaction represents another important step in Poggipolini’s international growth journey and strengthens our presence in California, one of the world’s leading aerospace ecosystems.”
- Poggipolini said Saturn brings “valuable expertise, relationships and capabilities in specialty and standard aerospace fasteners” to the group.
- The stated goal is to support Saturn’s next phase of growth, deliver greater value to customers and further establish Poggipolini as an Aerospace & Defense platform.
What we’re watching: The next step will be integrating Saturn into the wider group while preserving its expertise and local relationships.
- Poggipolini’s ability to connect its new California operations with the rest of the group will determine how far the acquisition can become a commercial and manufacturing multiplier across the business.
The bottom line: With Saturn, Poggipolini adds another piece to its international industrial platform and increases the weight of the United States in a business already heavily focused on aerospace and overseas markets.
