What happened: Italy is sending a €10mn emergency relief package to Lebanon to address worsening humanitarian conditions linked to the ongoing conflict.
- The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
The details:
- €6mn will support the Lebanese government in meeting urgent needs such as food and sanitation for more than 220,000 people, including vulnerable Christian communities in the Mount Lebanon region.
- €2mn will go to a UN-managed humanitarian fund dedicated to Lebanon.
- Another €2mn will be allocated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
What’s next: The Italian government is also preparing an urgent humanitarian flight carrying around 30 tonnes of relief supplies, including:
- thermal blankets
- personal hygiene kits
- water storage equipment
- transport and logistics materials
The bottom line: Italy is combining bilateral aid, multilateral contributions and direct humanitarian logistics as it tries to respond quickly to Lebanon’s deteriorating humanitarian situation.
