Rome hosted a bilateral reconstruction conference in April and will continue to play “a central role” with the G7 presidency next year and the Ukraine Recovery Conference in 2025, said Foreign Minister Tajani
The Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023 in London represents “a very clear political message”, primarily directed towards Russia, showing that we are “united in defence of international law” and for the independence of Ukraine. This was stated by Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
- “We want peace but peace without justice is not peace. Justice is the freedom of Ukraine,” he added. Ukraine’s freedom “is our freedom.”
- To pave the way for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO, “we need to work for the reconstruction” and “to work all together.”
Italy hosted a bilateral reconstruction conference in Rome in April and will continue to play “a central role” with the G7 presidency next year, followed by hosting the Ukraine Recovery Conference in 2025, Tajani said.
- “To start rebuilding Ukraine, we don’t have to wait for the end of the conflict, as often reminded by [Ukrainian] president [Volodymyr] Zelensky.”
- Tajani reaffirmed the Italian government’s and private sector’s commitment to reconstruction during his brief conversation with Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, on the sidelines of the conference.
Tajani appointed Davide La Cecilia, former Italian ambassador to Kyiv, as the special envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
- He will be “the Italian focal point for the reconstruction process”, Tajani said.
