Risk of infiltration. Italian intelligence officials have raised concerns over Ukraine’s reconstruction and warned of the risk of criminal infiltration in these operations.
- During today’s presentation of the annual 2024 intelligence report, Vittorio Rizzi—Director General of the Department of Information for Security, the body coordinating Italy’s two intelligence agencies—emphasised the need for vigilance.
- Rizzi warned, “Attention must be paid to the reconstruction of Ukraine, as there is a risk that criminal groups could infiltrate these operations.”
On the horizon. The upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025), scheduled to be held in Rome on 10-11 July, will be the fourth event of its kind.
- The conference will focus on four thematic dimensions: the Business Dimension, the Human Dimension, the Local and Regional Dimension, and the EU Dimension, which also guided the work of URC2024.
- This forum is expected to be a key platform for discussing sustainable reconstruction and ensuring the preservation of strategic interests.
Global Impact. Discussing the recent confrontation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Rizzi noted that such incidents have further complicated the international scenario.
- “Any solution will require reshaping the security in Europe,” he stated, underscoring the interconnected nature of global politics.
- Rizzi stressed the importance of finding a common denominator to secure peace and maintain the balance of the Atlantic community.
- “The commitment of our political authority is to pursue peace and safeguard the stability of the transatlantic alliance,” he added.
